A REINTERVIEW with Greg Ulmer, Part 1.

(No part of this reinterview may be published elsewhere without written permission from victor j. vitanza and greg ulmer.) --Copyright notice at end of each file, starting with September file.

The PreText Conversations held a Re/In/View<

with Greg Ulmer about his Heuretics: The Logic of Invention

during September, October, and November of 1994.

Preparation for the Re/In/View began on the list in July and continued during August.

Because PTc intends to maintain a human face in cyberspace we archive our own files by topic and distribute them by request.

The Ulmer Re/In/View is maintained in five large files:

July 37 blocks
August 221 blocks
September 218 blocks
October 99 blocks
November 53 blocks
A block can roughly equal about 25 screens at 20 lines per screen.

Because the files are large we usually forward one file each day in sequence after receiving a request.

The Ulmer Re/In/View files are maintained at PreText@MaimiU by Jim McFadden

#### REINVW ANNOUNCEMENT ####

--------Second Notice------

Greg Ulmer has agreed to do a RE/INTER/VIEW with us.

The best time for him is late August, which will give us time to carefully read ...

_Heuretics: The Logic of Invention_. Baltimore: The Johns Hopkins UP, 1994. (in pb. it is $13.95.)

In preparing for the re/inter/view, you might want also to read Ulmer's _Applied Grammatology_ (1985) and his _Teletheory_ (1989).

He has suggested that we also read his article "Metaphoric Rocks," for it suggests his "attempts to apply ... performance strategies to research."

Along the lines of autobiography, which we have been dis- cussing on PTISSUES, Greg has suggested that we might be interested in an interview of his: "The Making of 'Derrida at the Little Big Horn.' " _Strategies_ vol. 2 (1989): 9-23.

We do not have this journal at UTA or at MU, so I will order it through interlibrary loan, try to find someone who can scan it, and distribute it on REINVW.

Thanks.

++++++++For new subscribers on the list:

Greg Ulmer has agreed to do a RE/INTER/VIEW with us. The best time for him is late August, which will give us time to carefully read and think about ...

_Heuretics: The Logic of Invention_. Baltimore: The Johns Hopkins UP, 1994. (in pb. it is $13.95.)

I previously sent this article as a file on this sublist. You can either retrieve the article from the archives or send me a note and I will send the file of the article to you.

If from the archives: send request to . The message should be: get reinvw log9406. (Please note that there is no space between log9406.)

If from me: write to .

Along the lines of autobiography, which we have been dis- cussing on PTISSUES, Greg has suggested that we might be interested in an interview of his: "The Making of 'Derrida at the Little Big Horn.' " _Strategies_ vol. 2 (1989): 9-23. We do not subscribe to this journal at UTA. Being gone, I have not had a chance to order this one through interlibrary loan. I suggest that you try to get it through your own library.

****

I would like to take the opportunity to thank Lester for being the first author on REINVW, in particular, being our guinea pig, so that we might figure out what would be a good way to conduct re/inter/views. When we begin our next with Greg, we will engage in a more direct Q/A, so that the author can respond immediately, if he or she so wishes.

I think that it is a good idea that some of you have begun discussing Greg's work on RHETCHAT. Thanks for getting things rolling.

As we continue to discover how to conduct re/inter/views in

this medium, we will continue to revise our approaches. Some time after September 1st, we will begin discussion our options on the PTC (administrative) sublist. If you would like to join in on the discussion, please do so. (If not already, be sure to subscribe to PTC.)

One last note: Here at UTA, we are starting another reading group, one that can focus on each of the books and authors that we will be working with. In this way, we will be able to generate some questions and concerns locally, and then communicate them out over the net. Perhaps others of you, if possible, might want to form similar reading groups that would be concerned with books and authors here on REINVW. Or if you have other suggestions about how to do all this, we would be most grateful for your suggestions. Thanks.
